“Self-Defense for Women in 5 Steps”

Let’s get to the details of these steps now!
Step # 1: Confidence
The first step in any dangerous situation is to be confident. How do we just “be” confident when our life is in danger? Typically we don’t, which is why you should seek out a martial art that suits you. When you learn something, you will gradually become more confident in it, and martial arts will make you confident in defending yourself. So why not learn?
Step # 2: Avoidance
Another very important step is to avoid situations that can put you in a harmful spot. How do you do that? You should avoid dark places and walk down well lit streets at night. When you go to unfamiliar places, make sure you go where there are lots of people, as opposed to places that have very few people. Run down on the beach instead of a secluded pathway with very few people.
Step # 3: Awareness
This step goes hand in hand with all other stages of self-defense for women. By being aware, you will understand your surroundings. It is very important to know when to not go somewhere because something does not look right or you have a bad feeling about it. Follow your instinct, it’s usually right! If you walk around not paying attention to your surroundings, you could be an easier target for an attacker.
Step # 4: Confrontation
When confronted, you better be prepared or the next step may not even matter! 95% of the time you will sense when an attack is coming. You have to act on those senses immediately – your life depends on it. So how do you do that? If you have the opportunity, escape! If you can’t, then use the martial arts you have learned and defend yourself, ultimately getting to a position where you can escape.
Step # 5: Escaping
Always try to escape first, no matter what. The most important skill in self-defense for women is to escape the situation. How do you do that? Well if it’s to late to run, this is where your confidence in martial arts comes in. Always try to strike your attacker before they grab you. If they get through that, which most men will be able to do, then you will have to break their holds to get away. This is what Jiu Jitsu is all about. Then RUN!
